Grief has taken Patti Ashley on a magical mystery ride for the past fifty years. After losing her father at age eleven, her marriage in her thirties, and the love of her life in her fifties, Ashley decided to go to graduate school to learn how to help others grieve. Dr. Patti Ashley shares her own love story about healing the grief that so often accompanies the risk inherent in loving someone.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
![]() Patti Ashley, Ph.D., LPC was born in Norfolk, Virginia. She currently lives in Boulder, Colorado where she owns and operates a psychotherapy practice helping individuals and families break-through barriers to personal freedom and authentic growth. Patti completed a doctor of philosophy degree in psychology from the Union Institute and University; a master of science degree in education from Old Dominion University; and a bachelor of science degree in special education from James Madison University. Her doctoral dissertation on the experience of mothers not feeling good enough was the basis for her first book, Living in the Shadow of the Too-Good Mother Archetype. Her second book, Letters to Freedom is a memoir about love, loss and hope. She is currently working on two more books on the topic of shame.
